Posts: 525 11/25/08 10:08:05 Awooo! Were-Shep Admin of Portland! Awooo!	Tags : None Well... you guys probably knew this was coming a long time ago, but hey, I'm a stubborn old pup and thought, eh... MV's been around so long I'd like to keep it that way. But at this point, I just don't have the time or well... to be honest, I'm burned out on Transformers (hahaha, after nearly 25 years, go figure, man, am I old) to do much on this project any longer. I just don't. I've been covering the costs on it for as long as it's been around, and well... it's time for me to call it a day. I've had the pleasure of working with some amazing artists and authors and you guys have been excellent friends and co-creators to work with. I don't know if there's someone who wants to take it over, and take on the responsibility. I'd like to move it to a hosting site that doesn't cost me anything at this point, I've probably shelled out about five hundred bucks for this... all of it, including the board and the hosting. However, I'm letting everyone here know what's going on on my end, and I'd love to of course hear some feedback. Plus I frigging HATE Yuku. My computer hates it too.

As somebody who personally hasn't finished--or even barely worked on--anything TF related (before last week, that is) in over a year and a half, I completely understand the feeling. I've still been writing. Furiously in fact. I'm 120 single-space, 10-point pages into an original work of fiction. What little writing time that I have has pretty much been devoted to that. Anybody that knows my haphazard, short-attention-span writing style will be tremendously surprised to hear this. I'm surprised, and I'm the one writing it. Personally, I'll stand by whatever you decide in this, as you've been our fearless leader since this board started. If it comes down to "It was fun while it lasted," then that's where it'll be. Because that's what it's been: fun. I'd still contribute in my own slow way, but I don't see myself taking on the responsibility of running the MV universe. I've got already have a weather-related website to take care of besides work and my other writing. But yeah, I'd contribute still when I had something. So, there you go, my two cents, as hard to pin down as ever. Scottwave, off on vacation in a bit and it couldn't come sooner... Hmmm...Well, as I've been floating around the MV practically from the begining, I'd be willing to take over the reigns, on a teporary or permanent basis, if nobody else is. That is, of course, if you have no objections, O' Great Fuzzy One. Who knows- it may even kick my brain back into gear and get my various MV fics out of stasis. As for paying for the board... well, that's not really necessarry. Yes, we'll have to deal with ads once the current term expires, but that won't kill anybody. But if you're looking for free hosting for the site, I'm afraid you'll have to find that on your own. All I've used is Geocities. Still, if you get the site transfered, I'd be willing to take over the running of it for you. I'll even take the time to learn html, if I have to. I don't want to leave it fully behind me, but I don't think it's fair that there are people writing and I just don't have the time to look at these any more, or be here regularly. MCat is really the senior person here, period, and I need her to weigh in and I will bow to her choice as well. I just did the put it together and financial part, she had the drive and the idea so long ago, along with Nightwind. I can find some free hosting, I'm sure, or even find a reasonable one that might cost us a whole lot less at this point to move it, or even split my stuff and put it there for someone I trust to be able to access MV's updates and HTML. Scott, me too. I've been drifting to original fiction, writing away for the last few years and hoping to some books finished for submission. I can respect and love fanfiction, and I will never knock it. It taught me a lot about writing and made me a lot of good friends and business contacts throughout the years. You will never hear me disparage it in the slightest; I think some of the most talented writers I've ever met have started out in fanfiction and I'm not ashamed to say I still read it. I expect to read your book someday, too. Unfortunately, also my business is no longer a small one, and I now no longer have a whole lot of free time to do things for me, so something has to give. :/ Actually, it's not just the board here - I will let that run out, honest. I pay for my share of the website that hosts it, and originally, I paid for all the HTML coding to put it up because I didn't know it either. Starhorse generously donated her time and skill on the second revamp, and I am forever appreciative. The site did teach me how to code and how to do things. Yup, it's been fun. And I adore the people here. We did something pretty ambitious for the time period, and have a heck of a good group of people.

Posts: 2 11/26/08 14:52:17	Well, this makes me quite a bit sad to hear though I can't blame anyone in the slightest. I haven't really written anything since about 2003 and that has mainly to do with free time, so I understand where you're coming from completely. Still, MV has played quite a large role in my enjoyment of Transformers in general and I hope to see it continue in some form for awhile longer. I would love to be able to offer some sort of assistance, but between the military, family, school, and a full-time job I don't have much time to dedicate to anything. That being said, I recently started to polish up a MV fic that has been sitting around in my brain for about three years. I began to finish it up back in October, but hadn't heard back from anyone about whether I could use their characters and I didn't want to step on any toes. I guess I can go ahead and finish it up and post though. This place has been a blast and it's been nice to come back to it over the years and re-read many of the fics I'd kept close.

I'd like to still have a spot here of some sort, be it lying in the back room and eating cookies; who knows, I might at some point pick up my stories again, and at least finish off the last one, heh. I saw your fic, and by all means, write it, and we'll work on getting it up on the site. I can do that bit, promise. I don't want to lose the site, I'd like it to stay on line. I have no intentions of dumping it - there's too much work by a whole lot of great folks - it and they don't deserve that.

I expect to read your book someday, too. I will never knock fanfic writers or fanfic writing either. I've been writing fanfics for a decade now and it has taught me so much. It gives a starting writer a good launching pad of sorts. The characters are there. General story lines are there to build off of. A new writer can then cut their teeth and practice things like pacing, plotting, and character development. And I really thank that MV in specific helped even more for me, because while the character's names are the same, they are definitely very different. Writers here created new characters and new storylines. They still might be fanfics, but I think that they are getting close to the realm of original fiction. Like Eleyre, and probably a lot of people, I'll go back and reread some of the archived fics. They're too good not to really. And even if I don't work on or finish the fics on a timely basis (like I ever have... ), I have enough ideas rattling around to keep me going in MV for years. I'll let the rest of you decide if that's a good thing or not. Scottwave, as for reading my book, I'm under no illusion as to how difficult it can be to get published, but god wouldn't that be nice... and I'll turn that around on Deceptipup and say "likewise"... (Admin)	Sorry to come in late to this, but I shamefacedly admit I haven't been here in a long time...in fact, I lost this bookmark after my computer went through Spyware Hell. (Long story, won't bore you.) But honestly, since I've been such a neglectful co-founder, I hardly think I have the right to dictate the future of MV. D-Pup, if you want to let it go, that's entirely your call and I'm cool with whatever decision you reach. However, I don't think I can be the one to take it over. I haven't done a thing with TFs in years either (funny how so many of us kind of drifted off), and I no longer have my own webspace, so I can't offer to host the current site. Stel, if you want to be the one to take over the mad and merry MirrorVerse, I for one am perfectly OK with that. I'd rather see the MV go on without me if people are still interested in it than see it disappear entirely. And I'm OK with relinquishing the rights to my characters to whoever winds up in charge, with the exception of fanchars like MetalliCat and Spiral. Anyway, best wishes to everyone, and to the MV, wherever it winds up living. --MCat

I've perused some of the older threads and see that a lot of discussion had been ongoing about it and it looks like a fair amount of work was put into it, but I couldn't find anything more substantial on it. Was anything ever finalized? Are there any notes or such floating around that I could take a look at? I've got some free time for a month or so and would be interested in reading them and, perhaps, working on finishing the project if it hasn't been already (if only for my own personal satisfaction).

Anyway, the fate of MV:TM is ultimately D-Pup's call, so I'll let her pass the final judgment on that. I don't remember ever getting as far as a formal outline, but I could be wrong. However, I will point out that the idea of an MV:TM, while longstanding, had (and still has) a lot of complications. That was one main reason why it was always intended to be a collaborative project...as far as my memory serves, we had planned that many different MV members would write the various sections of the story, and then string it all together. Another reason it never came about was that none of us ever really got to that point in time with our own story arcs, if that makes sense. For example, suppose someone wanted to write part of MV:TM involving Prowl. But how do you know that I didn't plan to kill off Prowl by the MV year 2005? Or to kill off Wheeljack, or Starscream, or Perceptor, or any number of characters who were prominent in the "real" TF:TM? Or what if I'd already given permission for another writer to kill, or otherwise remove from the storyline, any of those characters, and they just never got around to writing the story? How could I then turn around and give permission to a newer writer to do something that would contradict the first writer's idea? You can see how it all becomes quite a tangled ball of yarn at this point. Anyway, I'm not in a position to shoot down the idea of actually doing MV:TM, and I hope I'm not coming across as completely negative and discouraging. It's just that it's a big, complicated question, and depending on what charas you want to use, you're going to have to track down an awful lot of writers in order to make such a fic come about. --MCat

Well, as you may have guessed by showing up a month after this is posted, yeah, I too have been burned out Transformer-wise...and actually have been for four years! It's just been hard to tell due to my coming up with a new Transfic every once in awhile and my continued adminning at the Hangar. MV-wise, my hands are a bit tied. Being that I'm in charge of the MV Unicronians (at least I hope I still am!), I can't do too much until MV:TM is finished. And MCat's already outlined home tough a task that is. And my one pre-movie fic...well, it's a collaboration with Stel, and I still hafta wait until she's done with part one. The fact that both of us have full-time jobs doesn't help anything. But as for money, I'd be glad to help out. In fact, I had thought about asking about donations earlier. (And yeah, Yuku takes some getting used to...)

I have a good chunk of webspace that I'm really not doing much with; alternately, well, I did graduate a few years back so I could happily help fund some things. DPup, you have really shown a lot of heart in keeping this going and always doing the right thing by all of us. I'm happy to hear that your business is growing and I hope to find you and Scott in the bookstore someday! As for TF:TM, well, I guess it would be best to find out how many active writers still plan to participate in writing it. I would love to but honestly don't know how realistic it is; I know that I could commit to some revamping/outlining/brainstorming sessions. I'd have to go re-read those same threads, Eleyre. Any other thoughts on this? I know that I'm not alone in this--the site's influence has spread all across the Transfan's Internet community.
