Tags : None Oh wait, yes I can. http://www.transfancentra...okingglass/aboutsite.html Man, okay... while I can totally respect the fact that the MV idea was never an original one (haha, everyone's got a bad/good flip flop universe) and that the person who runs it (who came here, I do believe, and got some thoughtful comments and advice) is absolutely within their rights to do anything they want fanfic wise... I guess I'm just a tad bit bothered, in a way because of the tone of this page. Maybe it's just me, and you guys can shake some sense into me, but I rather feel as if the effort that was put into making sure there were finished, polished, spell-checked stories was rather dismissed abruptly with the whole comment. Maybe I shouldn't be, because in the end, people are writing and reading, and in this day and age, that's pretty rare, right? And yes, now that Hasbro does whatever they want, tis fair game, heh. Ah well, at least most of the fandom pointed out we were here to them. Kind of funny, really.

As for the Looking Glass website... the tone was little dismissive in general and to say that it's the brainchild of Lady Starscream (who I actually may remember from way back, even though it could be someone else entirely) might be overstating it a bit. Not only because of the aforementioned Star Trek or South Park--where Cartman is a really nice guy!--but because of Nightwind and MCat and one really good standalone fanfic. Eh. In the end, I don't really blame you for being a little miffed. I've always thought that websites were for finished fanfics. Aside from a couple of multi-part fics that will never be finished, all the fics on my personal site are completed. I'll post partial fics to a message board looking for feedback. I used to do that all the time and I'm not the only one. Back in the newsgroup days, it was the same way. Look at our message board (or the Padded Cell for that matter). It's not like unfinished, unpolished, un-spellchecked stories aren't posted to the message boards. Has nobody seen my grammar-challenged ficbits?! In the end, I guess what I'd say is that is good that people are reading and writing. More power to 'em and I hope they do well and grow as writers. It might be good for them. I've gotten better as a writer thanks in large part to MV; tackling a universe without the crutch of already having the characters created for you will do that. And I'm not alone either. Look at the MV site. There are five years of really good fics there, all of them well-written and somehow managing to stay within a common mood, quality, and continuity. There are a dozen writers essentially sharing one another's characters with such skill that it's practically seamless. You're right that everybody as flip side universe, but it's funny that we've been sitting here for years when Hasbro had their epiphany. Scottwave, posting more today than I have in the last year... Posts: 5 12/04/08 17:13:28	I finally got around to poking at the page and, honestly, I wouldn't let it ruffle your collar any. The attitude is similar to someone who believes its acceptable to wear whatever you want to an interview. Sure, you may have the best ideas in the world and the greatest potential, but if your presentation is a turn-off then no one's going to give you the time of day. I can't count how many people I've tried to get to understand that how you come across in the written word can have a profound impact on how well people receive you. Most of the time they just don't get it and I attribute a lot of that to the mindset of today's chatroom culture with all of is abbreviated netspeak. But there's a lot of stories floating around on the Internet that I just won't give the time of day because they're so shoddily put together. I can tolerate the occasional mistake of using their for they're. Typos and inaccuracies happen to the best of us. But to, in essence, glorify such mistakes because you don't feel they're worth the effort of correcting is going to severely limit the audience you're able to reach. After browsing through the site, as harsh as it may be to say, I'm not terribly inclined to read much of what they've posted. A lot of time and care was put into this Mirrorverse site and the product shows that. I don't know that the same can necessarily be said of the Looking Glass website. Instead of letting the comments grate on you, I think you should take it as a compliment to how solid a product you and the other Mirrorverse contributors have put together.
